What’s Your Name?

Spread the love

When I was in school there were two boys, brothers actually, that had the names Clare and Kim. Then a guy named Dana and a guy Rene!  How could that be?  My sister’s name is Dana. Stop, stop, stop! That can’t be. Makes you kinda giggle, right?  I didn’t think much of it except the fact that they had girly names. I thought that their Mommas just didn’t like their boys at all. Ha ha ha!

Then I found a love for old movies. It was nothing to hear the name Clare, Leslie, Rene’, Dana, Whitney, Francis, and Ashley, for a man, not a sissy man, a hunk of a man. So I am like “hmmm.” Well, ok then. Go you Mommas who stayed true to the past!

Love for Old Movies

My love for old movies, my fascination with old names and what gender they belong to, if any gender at all may explain why I named my oldest daughter Madison. Doesn’t seem such a big deal now right?  Heard it a thousand times. Well, 32 years ago when I was pregnant with her it was a man’s name no exception to the rule. So much so that when I came back to my hometown and had her dedicated in church the pastor, despite Madison’s  bald head with bows pasted on it along with her fluffy pink dress, said the Prayer something like this, “Let Madison grow up to be a man of the Lord, follow you God, a Godly husband, and father…” Poor baby. That wasn’t the end. It followed her everywhere even after her ear-piercing until the name became more popular. Trendsetter, I am! LOL, just fool-in’.

THEN ten years later, I had another daughter I named her Quincy. I am sure people thought the same thing about me that they thought about Clare and Kim’s Momma. They are beautiful girls with strong hearts and strong independent minds. I have two boys. Guess what I named them?

Until next time when I continue my thoughts about names, well maybe the next several times. Ok, ok, ok. This will be a subject that will come up often. If you have any thoughts or would like to share a name story please lay it on me in the comments. I would love to hear it!!!

Until then,
